The Newport Quays Consortium of Urban Construct and Multiplex has been awarded the Urban Development Institute of Australia’s State award for excellence in High Density Housing for the development of Edgewater.
.
The judges said they were “impressed” with the manner in which Edgewater “takes advantage of the site conditions and provides a sense of place for not only residents but the broader community”.
The development of Edgewater demonstrated “an appreciation of the site and locality and is holistically renewing an otherwise derelict and underutilised land holding”, the judges said.
“The built form and material choices have been sensitively selected for the environment; both cultural and climatic.”
“The design respects the public realm, providing for water vistas from surrounding areas, whilst maximising water views and experiences for those within the development via large balconies and decking.”
The State Government recently proclaimed the $2 billion waterfront redevelopment as the suburb of ‘New Port’. The name will provide a simple identity for this exciting new development.
The name New Port is steeped in Port Adelaide history, and reintroduces a name that was given to a significant development in the community in the mid-1800s.
Located just 20 minutes from the Adelaide CBD, Newport Quays is one of the most accessible, modern boating environments in Australia.
